Chandrayaan 3 Moon Landing Live Update: Chandrayaan-3 Success
The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) made history on August 23, Wednesday evening with the soft landing of the Chandrayaan 3 spacecraft on the Moon. The Vikram lander made a soft landing at 18:04 PT, ending the disappointment of Chandrayaan 2’s crash landing four years ago. The mission’s success made India the first country to land a spacecraft in an unexplored region near the South Pole of the Moon. In fact, India is only the fourth country in history to make a soft landing, after the United States, the Soviet Union, and China.
Shortly after the Vikram lander landed and the space agency assessed its condition, dust accumulated on the lunar surface and the Pragyan probe tumbled off the lander. This kicked off the 1 -day scientific observations of the Chandrayaan-3 mission. ISRO Director S. Somanath added that ISRO is working on robotic path-planning training that could assist future lunar exploration.
